I always wanted to do Wedge and especially the NE arete climb so after talking with my friend Marius and looking at the forecast we decided to go to Wedge lake and decide from there.
The hike to the lake was steeper and longer than I expected but it was a pretty good trail.
We were in the clouds all day and we were hoping that the clouds would lift up once we will get to the lake but wasn't looking good at all.
There was nobody in the hut so we decided to put our stuff in the hut and watch for those clouds moving.
Soon we saw a climber coming back to the hut which was an old friend Ben that I've met on Mount Clarke few years ago and he did Weart Peak and was on his way back down.
After talking to few other climbers that were there in tents looked like nobody had a solid plan and just wanted to wake up in the morning and see how it will be.
We woke up pretty early, got out of the hut and the clouds were still pretty low so we went back to bed.
We woke up later with almost blue skies, I got pretty excited and still wanted to do Wedge but since it was a bit late for getting on the NE arete route Marius suggested to just go by the scramble book.
So soon we left the hut towards the glacier.
Once we were getting closer to Wedge there was a group of climbers coming down from the NE arete route.
We went to the col of Wedge and Parkhurst from where we could see some older tracks in snow that we were following.
We looped around Wedge and soon started our long way up on the west ridge of Mount Wedge.
As we were going higher the weather was getting worse and soon we were in the clouds again.
We soon stopped to a bump that we tough was the summit but after few minutes we found more tracks and kept going for 10 more minutes before reaching the summit.
Looked like somebody was on the summit few days ago but nobody was today.
We didn't had any views at all on the summit so we just took a summit photo and started our way down.
Going down was way slower than going up having those boulders with little amount of snow on them made the descend not that easy and pleasant.
Soon we finally got down from that ridge and were back at Wedge-Parkhurst col from where it didn't took us long until we got back to the hut.
Once we got at the hut we had some snacks and packed our gear and started our way back down to the car.
Great trip in Wedge area, not the best views but we still had some views.
