Tabletop,Anemone,Arrowhead and Tynemouth Peaks
Adrien suggested to get out for few days and celebrate winter holidays somewhere in a nice are in a hut with a small group and of course we all said yes and he suggested as our first option Lizzie Creek area.
So here we are in the morning of December 25th we left Vancouver with out huge and heavy packs in the car and started our drive towards Pemberton from where we continued our way to In-Shuck-ch Main to Phacelia Creek Road on which we drove a bit over 1km and parked at the old spur road that used to be ok a while ago.
Our backpacks were pretty heavy, some of us needed help to get them on with skis and ski boots on.
We started our way up with hiking up the road to the first turn where the new Lizzie Creek trail starts which is a detour to pass the slide on the road.
The detour is not that long but it's pretty steep and felt pretty hard with those huge packs and skis.
Soon we finally got on the road and started our way.
The further we were going in those bushes were getting worse.
Soon we got to a point where we could finally leave our shoes and switch to skis which made our packs a little bit lighter.
Then the heavy bushwhacking began and slowed us down pretty bad and it was getting worse and worse and in some spots we were thinking how are we going to ski this madness on our way down.
Once we got higher on the road we could finally see some views back towards Lillooet Lake and we knew that Lizzie Lake wasn't far now and the bushes were gone but now we had more snow and was harder for us to brake trail.
By the time we got to the lake it was getting pretty dark already and once we crossed the lake we had to start using our hedlamps.
Our mistake was that we left the summer trail and crossed the lake and it took us a while to find the summer trail after that.
After few hours of battling the steep terrain that we had to deal with to get back on the trail we decided that we should just stop, sleep there and continue tomorrow with a better light.
Adrien had a 2 person tent and Ben and Dean had bivy's.
I had some beers that I was hoping to drink in the hut but decided to give everybody a beer and have them now since it was Christmas day.
The next morning we woke up all cold and we didn't even had breakfast and decided to just go and get to the hut and have some food there.
Didn't took us long to find the trail marker and form there it was mostly traversing in the forest and much easier terrain.
Soon we got to the hut, we chose our beds and made some food after what we started our way towards Tabletop Mountain with just 3 of us while Adrien decided to stay in for this one.
The weather wasn't the best and it was getting pretty cloudy as we were going higher up and required a lot of navigation.
Just before the summit we left our skis and bootpacked the last bit to the summit of Tabletop Mountain.
Skiing back down to the hut was marginal, pretty slow skiing since we were in the clouds for most of the time.
Once we got back to the hut we got the fire going and started our dinners.
And I brought a Santa with me which I left it in the hut at the of the trip.
On the third day the weather still didn't improved, was still pretty cloudy but we still decided to get out and do something and decided to go for Anemone Peak after what we got back down to the hut and did a small run in Longs Peak area in the evening.
On the fourth day we finally got the good weather and we decided to go for Arrowhead and Tynemouth Peaks, we went up first Arrowhead Peak from where we dropped a bit and then continued our way towards Tynemouth peak.
On our fifth day it was time to leave but none of us were excited about that overgrown road section, this time we followed the summer trail for a bit more and me and Adrien decided to just drop down to the lake and cross it while Ben and Dean stayed on the summer trail, but in the end all of us got at the same time by the road.
Skiing down the road wasn't fun at all, the part without bushes was ok but once we entered the bushes we decided to take our skis off earlier and just walk the road.
Near the new hiking trail, Adrien decided to just follow the road and cross the creek since the creek crossing was just by the car and Dean went with him while me and Ben took the detour trail.
Once we got to the car we see Adrien wet and a bit scared, the creek was much higher and stronger than he tough and almost took him down the stream.
In the end it was a great trip in a new area and we had the entire area for ourselves, too bad we only had good weather just for one day while we were there.
