Morrison S2- April 06th 2014
A weekend before that Dean and Alaistar went up for Morrison Peak and didn't make it, so for this weekend he suggested to go and try for Morrison Peak and I wanted to check some other logging roads for a trip that I was planning soon and decided to give it a try but we had to start super early to make sure we will still have time to check the logging road for my access for the future trip.
The access to Mount Morrison is via logging roads that run along the north side of Ryan River where there is a branch that goes up to 1150m.
We parked my car at the bottom of the branch from where we started skinning up the road for a while.
Near the end of the road we entered the clearcut and soon started our steep ascent in the forest.
The forest was pretty steep for a while and we could still see the tracks from last weekend that we were following.
Higher up there was a lot of fresh snow and it was getting pretty warm too and we started to have some problems with snow sticking to our skis.
We had to stop from time to time to apply skin wax which helped for a bit and then again we would have huge snowballs on our skins.
After a long day of skinning up we finally reached the broad SE ridge of Mount Morrison and started our way towards the summit.
The view were amazing while we were making our way to the summit.
We had to bootpack for a short section just before the summit.
Once I got on the summit I was pretty tired and Dean got on the summit saying that this is not Mount Morrison and that this is just a subsummit and the true summit is about 2 km away, at that point I knew I won't be able to continue for 2 km following that ridge and plus the ridge looked pretty broken to get up and down the next subsummit so we decided to start our ski back down to the car.
Once we got back down to the car we went for a drive to check some roads and see the access for a further trip that I was planning in a bit.
Here is the video of the trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83oroYB8vjA
