Greifswald and Snowspider

                          Greifswald and Snowspider Mountains-March 01-02,2014

Alexis suggested for this weekend to go for Snowspider peak from Caspar Creek side rather than do it the standard way which is from Cerise Creek over Vantage col, and the plan was also to try and get Greifswald and Kosegarten Peaks.

We parked our car at the same spot as last time at Caspar Creek and followed Cerise Main for a while before turning left into Caspar Creek Road which we followed to the end from where we followed the valley bottom for another 2 km before going right towards Kosegarten-Greifswald col.

At this point it was pretty windy and the weather wasn't on our side, we were in the clouds but we kept on going and following Alexis.

Once we got to the col despite the cold wind and pretty low visibility all of us said yes for going up towards Greifswald Peak, which had some tricky spots along the ridge.

Once we got on the summit we skied back down to the col and started our descend down towards the hut.

The descend was pretty bad, the snow was mixed, crusty in spots, and wind loaded a lot so we took our time to ski down.

Once we got at the valley bottom the hut wasn't that far at all but it was all buried in snow.

We all got in the small and cozy hut and started the fire and soon had our dinners.

The next morning we woke up and the weather didn't improve much but Alexis was pretty keen on going and after our breakfast we started our way towards Snowspider Peak.

As we were getting higher the visibility was worse and worse and to continue further up the mountain we had to spot few times and check the GPS and check the map.

Before the summit we had to bootpack the last steep section which was pretty bad since Dean was in the front and pretty much not sinking too much in snow and us behind him just struggling to keep up, we were waist deep in snow and barely moving.

Once we got on the summit we were happy even that we didn't really had any views at all.

Soon we started our descend down to the hut from where we started our long way back to the highway via VanHorlick FSR which was a pretty long way and mostly just skinning.
