Three Days in Lake Lovely Water area

Three Days in Lake Lovely Water area-August 02-04 2014
Iota, Pelops, Niobe, Alpha and Thyestes Mountains

Leigh and Spring invited me and Ben to join them for a sweet adventure into Lake Lovely Water area and spending there 3 days.

The plan was to cross the river using cable to cross it using the tyrolean technique.

Once we got at the river we got all our gear sorted out and started crossing the river.
It was going pretty good half way and then we were going pretty slow and getting slowly tired since the chain was biting on the cable a lot and soon we started to see other groups that were getting ready to get on the cable.

Once we got on the other side we looked at each other and asked us if we really want to do this thing again on our way back or we should just call the helicopter company and book a flight, and of course we chose to make the call and book our flight out for August 04 which was a great idea.

Soon we started our hike up to Lake Lovely Water which wasn't too bad, a pretty nice trail a bit steep in few spots but we got to the lake pretty quick.

Once we got to the lake there was like a tent city already but luckily we could find a spot where we had room for 2 tents.

After setting up our tents we soon started our way towards Iota Peak which wasn't too far from the lake.

Once we were getting closer to the glacier there were few groups that were doing course on the glacier .

Soon we got to the Iota-Omega Col from where was pretty fast to get up on the summit of Iota.

It was my first time being up there so I wanted to continue further but everybody else already had done Pelops and Niobe and weren't interested in going up there again, so I went there alone while Ben was waiting for me on the summit of Iota.

The next day our plan was to do go for Alpha.

As we were getting closer to the russian army camp a helicopter kept flying by and later on had a long line and later we found out from another groups that they had to fly out a girl with a injured ankle.

The bugs were getting pretty bad above russian army camp and you couldn't even stop or they will just land on you and even the bug spray that we had wasn't really working.

Soon we started going up the scrambling route and there was already few groups ahead of us and we had to take our time and go one by one in some spots because of the rock fall hazard.

We finally reached the summit of Alpha Peak and the views were incredible and of course we took our time on the summit and took lots and lots of photos.

On our last day in the area we had planned to go for Thyestes Peak which was a similar route to what we did on the first day, go towards Iota Peak and keep traversing on the side of the peak and join the west ridge of Thyestes Peak which was a pretty easy hike with lots of ups and downs.

Once we got back to our camp we packed our gear and went to the hut where we were waiting for our flight.
