Sloan,Land,Green

Sloan, Land (subsummit) and Green Peaks-September 13-14th 2014

We were thinking to get into Mount Sloan area for a while and after few reports about the NE ridge to the summit of Mount Sloan we decided to give it a try with Ben,Adrien and Dean.

We left Vancouver pretty early since we had a long drive ahead of us.

After we got some gas in Pemberton we started our way towards the famous Hurley which was in pretty good shape and seemed that it was just graded recently.

Soon we finally got to Ault Creek Road which had lots and lots of waterabrs that weren't deep but on a steep heel that wasn't too good for a car with a stick.

Once we got to the turn off to the right for Ault Creek road towards Ault Creek trail we had to stop and I was happy since I was pretty tired of those endless waterbars, the road was just way too overgrown and looked like you would need a good 4X4 to continue.

Soon we started our way hiking along the road and in just few minutes we had our first view of the might Sloan.

We followed the road to the clearcut from where we started our ascent to the ridge, which wasn't too bushy but for sure it was steep.

Soon we got on the ridge but we still couldn't see the mighty NE ridge.

After few bushy sections we got to the base of the ridge and started our way along the ridge.

The ridge itself was pretty fun to follow, in few spots we had to go around and skip some of the towers but in general the ridge was super fun and pretty solid.

We all got to the summit happy but for sure tired hauling those overnight packs up to the summit so we took our time and I took a small nap on the summit.

Soon we started our way down yo the upper lake following the gully that is described and used as a ascent and descent gully in Scramble's Book, which was pretty loose in spots and there were some bad spots along the way down.

Once we got down to the lake we got our camp set up and most of us had bivy's to try and save some weight and after our dinners we went to bed.

The next morning after our breakfasts we started our way towards Land Peak, we had 2 options, or go to the summit from the West side following the glacier which looked open and pretty dry or go by the second option which was via the East ridge which looked ok with one one spot that looks gnarly even from the bottom but we still decided to go and give it a try.

As we were making our way up the terrain was getting more and more challenging but we were getting closer to the summit, but we knew that there is a step ahead of us that we saw from bellow.

Soon we got to that step that was huge and after minutes of looking around for a safe route to get down and even tried to find a spot where we could rapell but we only had a 30m rope with us which wasn't enough so we had to turn back, but after going back up to the subsummit we found a unexpected summit register and looked like we were not the only one that tried this way and ended up stopping on that subsummit.

After some photos we started our way back down and we started to follow the SW ridge towards the summit of Mount Green.

Some fun spots along the ridge to the summit and then we found that huge fire lookout on the summit and those roads that go all the way to the summit.

For our way back down we decided to take Green Mountain spur and that way do a small loop which worked out pretty good and saved us some time.

Back at the car we started our way back home and again got surprised in what shape was Hurley.

Great trip with friends and beautiful location for sure.
