Blowdown-Gott Creeks Traverse-February 14-15 2015
Gott, Kira, Strawberry, Walrus and Kite Peaks
And again we were back in Duffey, this time we decided to do a loop from Blowdown Creek into Gott Creek going over few peaks.
We started pretty early from Vancouver and soon we were back in the same spot at Blowdown Creek FSR.
We parked my car and started our way again skinning the long 10km Blowdown Creek FSR, this time we were a bit faster since we weren't carrying food for 4 days.
Once we started going on the high road going towards Gott-Gotcha col we started our way straight up towards Gott Peak.
There was a lot of activity on the other side of the valley, few snomobilers were having fun in Yoho Peak area.
Soon we got on the top of Gott Peak where took us a while to find a safe way down.
After looking for a while we found a spot where we could drop in but we had to cut a small cornice that was there and after that we one by one skied the face all the way down to the SW ridge of Rita Peak.
On the first day we decided to keep going as far as we can, so after getting on the summit of Rita Peak we skied down into Rita-Strawberry Col from where we skinned up to Strawberry summit.
It was getting close to the sunset and we didn't spent too much time on the summit of Strawberry and skied down to Strawberry-Walrus col where we found a perfect sheltered camping spot.
Once we got our tents set up we had our dinners and enjoyed the beautiful sunset.
The next morning after packing our stuff we started our way towards Walrus Peak.
From Walrus Peak we skied down into Walrus-Kite Col where there was a short but steep icy section and from the col we skinned up to Kite Peak.
From Kite Peak we skied back down into the col and from there we skied a nice line down into the valley.
We tried no to ski all the way down and just tried to stay high and contoured around Elusive SW3 from where we reached Gott Creek Road.
Now it was a long slog all the way back down to the highway.
Once we got at the highway I had another mission now, since we had only one car which we left at Blowdown Creek FSR I had to hitch hike back there.
We got all our gear close to the road where Dean and Ben were waiting hoping that people will see them and will stop for me but I had to walk about 6KM before a car stopped, they were some skiers coming back from Rogers Pass and even that their car was fool they somehow found some room for me.
